Anti-Piracy Policy
Overview
Opus Works is committed to ensuring that all software within the scope of the policy is fully licensed for the purpose for which it is being used. It is recognised that both deliberate and non-deliberate use of unlicensed software is a serious breach of intellectual property rights and could expose Opus Works to substantial fines, physical attack on IT systems through the inadvertent introduction of viruses and loss of reputation.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that:
- All software used by Opus Works staff is correctly licensed;
- All software used on equipment owned or leased by Opus Works is correctly licensed;
- Software licensed by Opus Works is not copied or otherwise used outside of the scope of the licence agreement.
- To raise awareness of the need for correct software licensing throughout Opus Works
Scope
This policy applies to:
- All Opus Works Consulting employees and contractors.
- All computerised equipment capable of running software where these systems are owned by Opus Works.
Policy
- Software that requires licencing should be procured through the Administration Team, Leadership Guild or a Director.
- Licenced software will not be copied for any reason other than legitimate backup purposes.
- Licenced software and any associated license information will not be distributed or shared with anyone other than the licensee.
- Physical software media for licenced software is securely stored in a locked cabinet.
- Users will, upon request, produce licenses for software that is installed on their equipment.
- Users shall be made aware of their responsibilities in the prevention of unauthorised use of software as part of their ISMS awareness training during induction.
Policy Compliance
Compliance Measurement
The Opus Works ISMS Committee will verify compliance to this policy through various methods, including but not limited to, periodic random audit of Opus Works equipment and automated scanning of hardware assets to ensure that no unauthorised software is installed.
Exceptions
- There will be no exceptions to this policy.
Non-Compliance
- Following the discovery of unlicensed software, the Opus Works ISMS Committee will ensure immediate removal of the unlicensed software
- In the event that there is a business need for the software that has been removed the user should apply for the software to be procured through standard channels.
- An employee found to have violated this policy may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
